Colin S. Smith has written a very interesting book from the viewpoint of the thief on the cross.  Heaven, How I Got Here discusses what the thief’s life was like, how he ended up on the cross, and how we can become a faithful Christians.

Smith combines the thief’s old faith, new faith, and what can happen to us if we believe and have faith.

Book Sample.

About the Author- Colin S. Smith has a daily radio program and is Senior Pastor in Chicago.  His website is www.unlockingthebible.org.

My thoughts-  I thought Heaven How I Got here, by Colin S. Smith, was simply going to be about the thief’s experience on the cross and nothing more.  I was wrong.  There was so much more about how and why we should trust in God.

The fact that the thief was able to be in heaven with Jesus that day should give all of us great hope.  He had faith and a desire to know Jesus.  The thief was not perfect and we do not need to be perfect to join His kingdom.  That is the most important thing we need to remember.  Jesus will take us at any stage.  We just need to believe in him.

I think one of the best parts  of the book is the Q & A section at the end of the book with Smith, because it explains why he wrote the book.

This book is perfect for those who want to know more about Christianity or need to come back to Jesus.  I highly recommend it.

Have you been looking for a book about church history or has someone you know?

God’s Story, by Brian Cosby, is an easy to read, yet complete book about Christian Church history.  This book includes questions at the end of the chapters and an overview of church history.  The church history is from the beginning of the Old Testament to today.

Some of the subjects included are:

  • church in the dark ages.
  • the reformations.
  • how the Bible has been abandoned today
  • fundamentalism and evangelicalism.

Book Trailer!

About the Author- Brian Cosby is from Tennessee and is Pastor of Wayside Presbyterian Church.  He has written a number of books.

My thoughts- I know a little something about about church history, but God’s Story, by Brian Cosby, filled in any information I was missing.  I learned more about creeds, Apostolic Fathers, the Reformations, and who has abandoned the Bible and what happened because of that.

I liked this book, because Cosby made this book factual.  He did not include his opinions.  I never works when an author decides to add his own opinions into a book that was not made for them.  I also liked how he included questions at the end of each chapter, so the reader could review and study what was read.  End-of-chapter questions are something that I find especially important when I read a nonfiction book.

I really liked this book and I think it would be perfect for young adults or adults who want a basic history of the church.  I highly recommend it.

Age Group- Older Teen and Adult Women

Description of book- paperback (ISBN 978-1-78191-058-0, $10.99)

Are you looking for a book on dating, which is based on the Bible?

Radical Dating, by Diane Montgomery, Gabrielle Pickle, and Sarah Bubar, is full of biblically-based information about dating, true love, singleness, and how to fulfill your relationship with Jesus.

Each author writes their own chapter and some of the subjects included are:

  • Why we date.
  • How we should date.
  • Who we should date.
  • What we are to do or not do on each date.
  • Life when we are single.

About the authors- Diane Montgomery, Gabrielle Pickle, and Sarah Bubar are ministry partners, best friends, and more.  They have started the Unlocking Femininity Blog to help girls and women connect with the truth of Jesus.

My thoughts- There are many different kinds of dating books being published today.  Radical Dating, by Diane Montgomery, Gabrielle Pickle, and Sarah Bubar, is a book that is well written, easy to read, and focuses on how to make sure God is the main focus in our relationships.

I enjoyed reading the different stories the authors had to share.  I also enjoyed the end of chapter questions and the amount of Bible verses used to support their text.  Sometimes there could be a lot of verses, but I could understand their use, because it only made the authors’ text stronger.

I was wondering how Montgomery, Pickle, and Bubar were going to divide up the writing and I was pleased when I saw that each person had written their own chapter.  It made a strong book because of that, and each author was able to have her own say.

I would recommend this book to others, because it is important as Christians to know how and who God would want us to date.
